The Meaning of Art

Art began as therapy when these two amazing young adults were tiny kiddos. I simply needed to sit with my boy on my lap and paint dinosaurs for his room while his sister was still in my belly. Grieving the loss of my sister and my dad, both who had died suddenly. I was worried and anxious. It calmed me. I painted more and more, took some classes workshops in the pauses between parenting and working an advertising career.

My passion for painting grew under the instruction of an amazing teacher and artist, Elizabeth Bronson. Learning the fundamentals of fine oil painting and dedicating time daily for practice has been my focus since the kids moved to middle school. Gradually moving further from advertising, I started painting for friends, creating pieces based on places that brought them joy. Friends referred friends which led to more opportunities to paint from the heART.

It’s been 15 years since those first Dinos. Years of art therapy. Sketching and painting is cathartic. Learning something new every day is energizing.. Challenging myself to take art to the next level and change careers has been transformative.. During Covid, I could share videos and FaceTime while live painting with friends, family and clients who were completely isolated. Since then, I’ve found clients really want to create a sanctuary in their home. I gain such gratitude in working with clients to create art that brings joy or calm to their space.
